Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take me to dance well?

How long is a piece of string?

We all learn at different speeds, but over the period of each Course you'll steadily improve and become more confident.

Remember, that 99% of people can't really dance - so if you and your partner can get on the floor and dance some basic steps, you'll look like a star, and have some fun along the way!

And lets face it, having fun is the reason we took up dancing in the first place, wasn't it?

If you want to progress faster, you might consider attending more than one class per week, or supplementing the courses with some private lessons.

Do I have to come with a partner?

No - Level (1) (which is Beginners) and Levels (2) and (3) are taught "in the round".

Using this technique you'll change partners at regular intervals - this has the advantage avoiding "bad habits" developing if we just dancing with one partner.

However, as far as practice goes, having a "dance buddy" is ideal. Check in with the Teaching Staff to see if anyone has inquired with them about finding a practice buddy. Alternately ask some of the other dancers in your class if they would like to practice after class.

If you would like to start off with a regular dance partner, ask among your friends & co-workers - you might be amazed at who is interested in learning to dance.

How frequently can I come to class?

You're welcome to come to ANY Class of the same level you're Registered for.

If, say you're doing Level (2), then you can attend EVERY Level (2) Class (at the moment that would be three (3) times per week, at no additional cost).

So there's no excuse for missing a Class!

I've danced before - what Level should I join?

The first step is to give us a call & discuss your needs. It might be appropriate to attend your nearest Studio (by appointment only), and have a quick dance with one of our Teachers. From here we can recommend which Class is best for you.

Are Private Lessons any help?

They sure are!

You can arrange for a "one off" just to fix a particular problem, a short series to get a handle on a particular dance style, or schedule regular lessons to really get ahead!

What about getting out and enjoying some social dancing?

Latin Ballroom hosts a social dance every month, and regularly conducts "nights out" to some of Sydney's best dance venues. Full information is sent out in the weekly Newsletter.

Could I become a Dance Teacher?

Chances are YES!. Have a look at the Teacher Training Pprogram on this site (click here).

Can I attend class on a lesson by lesson basis?

The short answer is no.

A regular, properly sequenced program which develops your dancing in a logical and easy to follow manner, is the best way to go.

We offer a Course, which develops each dance on a week to week basis. Having dancers "drop in" on a casual basis will put a great deal of pressure on them (they don't know last week's steps!), as well as the other dancers who are trying to build on last week's step.

Educationally, casual dance lessons don't really work - there are just too many people at different levels, who might or might not know the basis of the moves being taught.

Are there any learning materials I can review at home?

We've established a On-Line learning facility - DanceCampus. You get free access to DanceCampus for the duration of your Course.

Every step of every figure and routine in our Course is described, and many have animations and or videos of the steps.

Access DanceCampus before class to get a head start on the lesson, or review the steps after class.
